Airports
O'Hare International Airport (773) 686-2200 handles more passengers than any other airport in the world. For visitors needing information or directions, airport information booths are located on the lower levels of the domestic terminals and on the upper and lower levels of the International Terminal. A foreign currency exchange is located on the lower level of the International Terminal.

Midway Airport (773) 838-0600 is located at 5700 Cicero Avenue, 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. The one-building airport is divided into three terminals, A, B and C. The main lobby at the airport's center entrance is where the information booth and all vehicle pick-up services are available.

With so much to do and see in Chicago, it's great to know that getting around via public or private transportation is easy. To get your wheels turning, you can find transportation resources for all your needs right here.

Public Transportation
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers fast, direct train service from both airports to downtown, convenient bus and train lines to major attractions, simple fare cards, easy-to-use maps and brochures, and custom trip planning for groups.

For route, fare and schedule information, call 312-836-7000 every day from 5 a.m.-1 a.m. (CT). The CTA system map and Downtown Sightseeing Guide are available at all train stations, both airports, visitor information centers and hotels.

The fare for one ride is $1.50 for ages 12 and up. You can purchase CTA Transit Cards, which automatically deduct fares and transfers and can be used on trains and buses, at any CTA train station for any amount between $1.50 and $91. You can take two additional trips in the next two hours for the cost of a transfer (30 cents).

If you plan on using the CTA to get around, Visitor Passes are your best value. Available for 1-Day ($5), 2-Day($9), 3-Day($12) and 5-Day($18), they allow unlimited rides on buses and trains. Purchase passes at both airports, visitor information centers, Union Station and select Chicago attractions.

To purchase passes or transit cards in advance, call 1-888-968-7282. You can also purchase them online

Metropolitan Rail (Metra)
312-836-7000
Web: http://www.metrarail.com

Metra offers commuter train service between various suburbs and downtown. Metra's University Park line, which runs right through Hyde Park, is best for reaching the outer city limits and the suburbs. The main depot is at Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue.

Many long-time residents consider Metra the fastest, safest, and most comfortable way to get to the Loop. You may be slightly inconvenienced by the construction/renovation activity; the stations are being renovated. A ride to the Loop takes about 15 or 20 minutes.
Fares are determined by the areas of the route where you get on and off. Area A is from the last Randolph Street/South Water Street exit to 27th Street. Area B contains all the Hyde Park stops, Hyde Park/53rd Street, 55th, 56th, and 57th Streets, and the 59th Street/University of Chicago stop. Travel between Area A and Area B costs $1.95 if you buy your ticket at the train station. Fares can also be purchased on the train, but you'll pay an extra fee. If you use the Metra a lot, buy a 10-ride pass for $16.60 (for use between Areas A and B). Up to three children (11 and under) travel free with an adult.

Where to catch it:
· 59th Street and South Harper Avenue (express stop)
· South Lake Park Avenue at 47th Street
· South Lake Park Avenue at 51st Street
· South Lake Park Avenue at 53rd Street

(from Randolph Street/South Water Street)
Monday--Saturday: 5:15 a.m.—12:50 a.m. p.m.

Taxis
Taxis can be hailed from the street, but in Hyde Park, call in advance and arrange for a cab to pick you up (allow about 20 minutes). If you do call ahead, you can often arrange to pay by credit card. In Chicago, you pay the amount shown on the meter, plus any tolls. The meter should start at $1.60, then increase $1.40 for every mile, or 20¢ for every 45 seconds of waiting time. There is an extra 50¢ charge for additional passengers over 12 and under 65. There is no charge for baggage. Tipping is optional. Car seats for children are available.
The main cab services are Yellow Cab and Checker Cab. Both can be reached ahead of time by calling 312-TAXICAB (312-829-4222).
