Community Appearance
The appearance of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area is important to our image. The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce supports the efforts of many programs that keep our city beautiful.
Airport Gateway
The Gateway program is designed to beautify areas of Oklahoma City that visitors see upon entering the city. In 1996, an area on the southeast corner of the I-40/I-44 interchange received numerous trees that helped to change the appearance in that heavily traveled area. Trees and other plants are donated by local businesses and individuals.
This program is sponsored by the Chamber, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Greater Oklahoma City Tree Bank Foundation. It is supported by OG&E, McCoy Tree Surgery, Asplundh Tree Expert Company, Garland Nurseries, Inc., David Yost of the Future Investments Company, Mrs. Fred Jones, the Meinders Foundation, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, Hobby Lobby and Advanced Financial Solutions.
Volunteers or businesses interested in getting involved by purchasing trees or other plants should contact Dean Schirf at (405) 297-8933.
VIEW-Scape Program
Efforts to improve the way Oklahoma City looks have gained a new emphasis and direction since the fall of 1998 when a Community Appearance Summit was convened by business and community leaders. These leaders, along with the Chamber, placed city beautification as a top priority to instill community pride and promote economic development. The Chamber was one of the founding members and supporters of a Beautification Coalition that was a result of this summit.
Several areas have moved forward following this summit such as the VIEW-Scape program that will target approximately 100 miles of interstate highway in the Oklahoma City metro area for landscaping and beautification improvements. In October 1999, a VIEW-Scape contract was entered into between the Community Foundation and EDSA of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to develop a Masterplan to aesthetically improve the gateways / view scapes of our interstate system. This plan will require about a year to complete.
The Chamber is very much involved in this effort by being both a financial contributor to the Masterplan and serving on the Steering Committee.
Litter Hotline
The Litter Hotline allows citizens to report littering. Complaints to the hotline will be answered by having the litterer notified by mail that s/he has been seen littering in the Oklahoma City area and a request that s/he assist in helping to keep our city clean.
The Litter Hotline number is 1-888-5Litter.
This program is supported by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma City Beautiful, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

This annual program, held in April, includes volunteers from local businesses and associations dedicated to keeping Oklahoma City clean. Central Oklahoma Trash Cop Program
This program, enacted by the state legislature, allows state police officers to treat trash dumping as a traffic offense punishable by a maximum fine of $200. Private funding was raised to start the program in several counties--the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau contributed $25,000 toward the start-up costs.
The program is sponsored by Oklahoma City Beautiful, Central Oklahoma Clean and Green Task Force (a Central Oklahoma 2020 task force) and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. For more information contact Oklahoma City Beautiful at (405) 525-8822.
